EightBit.Me – The next big thing?

Do you see life as a game? Well the developers of Eightbit.me do with their new eight bit location check-in game that rewards you for checking into locations. Eightbit.me has Twitter and Foursquare integrations so you don’t have to worry about adding another social media to the harem that you’re signed up to already! It’s a platform that uses what is already available. The design and visual impact is really striking and it brings back a sense of nostalgia to the era when retro games were seen as cutting edge.

The fun part is creating the avatar of yourself in true I.T Crowd fashion and If you’ve been on the internet in the past month you will have undoubtedly seen the avatars for eightbit.me kicking around, especially on twitter. The idea is to then take your character (via your iphone) to all the places you go and check-in at each new location, in return for coins. The coins you earn from checking in allow you to further customize your eight bit character and I’m sure in the future more things will be developed for you to spend your virtual funds on.

The geeky bit is that Eightbit.me is written very well in HTML 5 allowing the app to be used on several different platforms all at once whilst continuing the great usability and animated style.

I know some social media is frowned upon by a lot of people and I understand there’s a fine line between living life in reality and virtually. But Eightbit.me only takes a few seconds to check-in and you can get back to your life. It’s all a bit of fun right?
